Prediction:
Total restructuring in certain industrial and political systems.
Objective measurement:
5% of the people working in the following industries in the USA on January 1st 1996 will have been unwillingly retrenched by the following year. This will be reflected in mini-census data from before and after the year. The legal system - The Army/Navy - The police force - Insurance companies - The bond market - the medical field - the IRS/FBI/CIA/DFA/ATF - US bases - The construction Industry - the sport industry

At the end of 1996, the USA was in a period of high employment and strong growth in nearly every sector. I haven't seen the census figures, but it would be very surprising if the above prediction were correct. (Which would make it all the more interesting!)
