A refereed medical journal will publish a paper showing that a particular drug has a better than 50% success rate at curing AIDS.

This would have been reported in many places. In the first half of 1996 various cocktails of drugs were shown to slow down the progression from HIV to AIDS, but certainly no cure was established.
